11 Signs You Might Be a Sigma Person.

You know about ALPHA and BETA but what about SIGMA?

Going Against the Grain is Normal.

Sigma persons tend to go around riding off into the sunset on their horses without much more to their name than the pack on their back.

This might sound a little extreme but normally the SIGMA characters don’t need things from society the way other people do. They are often self-employed, travelling nomads who seek adventure and knowledge, rather than material goods and tons of empty possessions.

Sigma personalities were once thought to be a rare breed of person that was living against the rules of society in some way but these days, with the rise of the internet and the ability to work and live anywhere, Sigmas are coming out of their shells and becoming more mainstream.

In 2020, we usually see this personalities in almost every Digital Nomad in the world.

They don’t like taking orders from people and don’t often conform to societies labels or systems with no reason. If you are a Sigma person, most likely you want to do what feels best to your instinct and not what is stipulated.

What’s interesting about Sigma people is that the need to be alone is only temporary.

“I need my space every now and then but it doesn’t mean I refuse to mix with society”

They get an initial sense of satisfaction from dropping out of society, but then come to recognize all they could contribute if people were more flexible and willing to do things differently. This is why sometimes Sigmas are perceived as hummingbirds but the key aspect here is they are trying to find the best solution with the different resources people can provide without solid attachments.

It’s not that Sigma males and females love to be alone, per se, but they don’t want to be trapped in the world as it exists right now. Consumerism, materialism and rooting for to long without a purpose is an aspect of life that detriments the emotional and mental health of these personalities.

They prefer to take what the need and move on to something a little more productive or at least different to keep exploring and learning.

Furthermore, is this sense of continuos exploration that causes them the ones who often step outside their comfort zones, create amazing things, start businesses, are quiet and confidence partners, and hard workers.

While some people may think that Sigma Males retreat from society because they are lazy or don’t want to work, the opposite has proven to be true. The feeling of independence and self ruling makes them high productive and good visionaries. However, they need time and space to craft their ideas and bring their dreams to life.

Their role, whether they realize it or not, is to pave the way for many others, including the wide known Alpha Males. This shouldn’t be taken as a constant competition but a symbiosis in different need of the modern society.

“None of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful.”

— Mother Teresa

New World Hierarchy

There’s no shortage of opportunities for Sigmas to make a difference in the world even from not ruling positions, but nowadays in a more connected “planetary world” if they try to go all alone they don’t amount to much.

2020 has started to change societies and the order we have performed for hundreds of years which is causing people to realize that the hierarchies that exist might be broken, but new ones can and should be created.

If you are a Sigma you definitely have capacities to create them with a wider consideration and make them strong enough to yield the backlash that might arise from such change. Sigma goes with the flow of life and tend to create everything around them the same way.

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” Lao Tzu

11 things Sigma People always do.

You can spot an Alpha male out from a mile away and Beta males blend into the crowd which makes them easier to recognize.

But what about if they don’t pursue the ruling positions and live unnoticed among a crowd they mix but blend?

1) You’re Hard to Get.

Usually when people have commented something about you, the comment of that “it is hard to “get you” arises. You are no stranger to people looking at you strangely and intrigued at the same time.

It’s not that you are “hard to get”, and you aren’t playing hard to get with the ladies, it’s just that you keep things close to your chest because that is who you are, that’s how you prefer to carry your “emotional weight”.

2) You Do Your Own Thing, at your own peace, with your own rules.

Sometimes, you do your own thing, even when everyone around you is screaming and yelling at you to do it differently. However, it’s not that you are trying to be difficult or stubborn, it’s just that you see no point in living your life according to everyone else’s rules or following a process in which you won’t be productive at all.

Sigma people always try to protect their emotional and mental health avoiding if possible following the “Must do” or “Social Standards

3) You Could be the Alpha.

An important characteristic of Sigma is that they can develop and perform for some time all the qualities of the Alpha, however this position doesn’t fit well with them for a longer run because the exposure, attention and losing the flexibility of your role.

If you feel that being in the spotlight for too long makes you uncomfortable and unbalances your happiness and mood, if you’ve had plenty of opportunities and the ability to step into the leadership role but chose not to, you are probably a Sigma Person.

4) You Don’t Say Much.

What might feel like introversion and a completely bitter silence to others feels natural to you. You speak when you need to, tending to say only what is important without pretending to catch much attention or churning people with your personal dilemmas. As an “emotional backpacker” you don’t see any point on always sharing your feelings or ideas if you can carry the weight.

Many people find you either introvert or mysterious because you don’t talk a lot. This is not a dating trick to make you more interesting but keeping your own flow and freedom in life.

5) You Are a Bit of a Rebel.

It’s not that you love to shake things up, you are just following your own instinct which might cause problems with the Alpha and bring some undesirable conflicts and extra attention.

You’d prefer just to do your own thing though, which normally will cause problems within the group. That’s why you preferred working alone in school and you get bored with too much planning on the projects.

Alpha directions are nice to you but no doubt that you will follow your own inspiration and vibes to deliver the great result expected from you but under your own rules.

6) You Get a lot of Attention.

This is a simple easy point. When you show different traits and way of doing things people feel curious about you and your habits.

If you are a kind person and friendly, people around you will start asking you questions about the way you would approach their problems because you always think “outside the box” or have a “wider point of view” about life.

Interestingly you don’t see that box, you just see your idea and seems obvious to you following that path.

“People who refer to out-of-the-box see the box … People who don’t know the box even exists are the innovative thinkers.”
― Lisa Goldenberg

7) You Hate When Someone Imposes on Your Lifestyle.

One of the things that drive you crazy about people is how they place social expectations and norms on you and blame when you don’t follow their standards.

When someone pretends to know you and assigning you an “ideal cliché” that they would love for themselves, makes you furious.

While that might be fine for other people, it’s not how you roll and you don’t appreciate people spelling things out for you about your own life and even less feeling like a character on anyone’s life.

You’re not a pet or an idol to idealize.

8) You Have Your Own Look.

Fashion is not an issue for you: while you don’t bother to pay attention to trends, you are always on point in how you look and you feel comfortable in your clothes and your own skin.

You like to look good in your own unique body, feeling good with yourselves without much need of approbation or following quick trends. Most likely you are not even aware what’s trendy now.

9) You Like Different Things and you share them openly.

While everyone at the table is trying to carry on a conversation with the person next to them while posting about it on social media, you are happy to just sit and listen to the band, actually engage in a conversation with someone about a topic that you find interesting without paying much attention to the context. The last documentary about quantum physics, about potatoes… it’s a long list of possibilities and you are not limiting yourself.

10) You Fit Anywhere.

Because you don’t demand power and because you don’t require leadership, you can blend in and out of groups in society easily and fluidly.

You bring with you no expectations or pressures however, because you are not following most of the rules that are normally conventional, you can face some issues and create some enemies even without you noticing. Not that people are envying you but that sense of freedom and confidence in yourself might be interpreted as arrogance.

11) You are Very Adaptable But Don’t Always Utilize That Skill.

One of the strong traits you possess is adaptability, it’s what makes it so easy for you to go your own way, but you don’t always harness the power of it unless it will help you get ahead.

Of course, this may look like manipulation in some circles, but you know that you are only taking what you need and continuing on your own path.

Whether you are an Alpha, Beta, or fall into this other category of Sigma person, be confident in who you are and remember that while you might stand out or blend in, it’s important to always just be yourself and be okay with that because at the end, faking a personality or pretending to like a life that doesn’t suit you will definitely harm you in serious ways.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
